Known as K-Rocket to those familiar with her speed and tactical savvy on the race course will be joining the State Wheels family as our first solo sponsored athlete. We are really excited to be working with and supporting a great Jr. racer.
Karen is 15yrs old and already known as a self-motivated young leader who is mature beyond her years. She is a fierce competitor in all aspects of her life and it shows on the race course as well as in the classroom. She started MTB racing in 2009 fueled by her competitive drive and love of riding bikes. After trying cyclocross late 2009 she raced a full season locally and regionally in 2010 and proclaimed cyclocross as her favorite form of racing.
Karen’s long term aspirations in the sport are to race Collegiate and Pro in both CX & MTB. She dreams of racing around the world and to share her love of the sport with other girls and women. Her academic goal is to become a Paleontologist, she loves the outdoors and fossil hunting. Karen is a strong cross country runner, triple lettering on the varsity squad as a freshmen, her team went on to win state and was undefeated in 2010.
Her goals for the 2011 CX season are to place well at many USGP CX races and dominate the local and regional races on her way to CX Nationals in Jan (top 3 finish). Karen is coming off a very impressive 2011 MTB racing season with two PROXCT podiums and a 4th place finish at MTB Nationals including a very impressive overall win at the Subaru Cup Midwest regional championship where she bested 30+ CAT 1 women (all age groups).
Academic accomplishments:
Duke Talent Identification program member with an ACT composite score of 18 in 7th grade
Patriots Pen winner 2009 – Raytown District for an essay on veterans
3.9 GPA as a high school freshman, advanced courses and recipient of the Presidents Academic Award in 2010
Karen will be on State 38mm Wheels this race season.
